A Guide to Sourcing Vintage

Centered by Design East Coast Meets West Coast Townhouse

If there is one constant in our work at Centered by Design, it’s the inclusion of unique vintage furniture and accessories. We love to create a layered space through the juxtaposition of old and new by incorporating different eras of design through antiques. While it doesn’t always happen overnight, sourcing a curated mix is the best foundation to add to over time. It’s one of the favorite parts of our jobs. Seriously, it gives us a thrill! The team visits antique markets like Round Top Antique & Design Show annually to source for our clients and bring home treasures we then incorporate into future projects and sell to our North Shore community.

If you’ve never been to Round Top, it’s hard to overstate just how special it is. Acres of fields filled with vendors, layers of history, and pieces that feel completely one-of-a-kind. It’s not just shopping, it’s a treasure hunt. You’ll spend days walking through tents and showrooms, sourcing vintage pieces with character, patina, and stories that simply can’t be replicated.

Behind the scenes at Round Top last month

As a firm, we are most drawn to European antiques with streamlined silhouettes and living finishes, but we stay open-minded when sourcing. Not only is the authenticity and beauty of a vintage piece a draw, but also the quality. Vintage pieces like art, mirrors, lighting, and rugs can really shape the design of a room. We aren’t the only ones talking about the staying power of vintage design! We were recently quoted in a Veranda piece about antique design features that should have never gone out of style.

These vintage chairs, sourced from South Loop Loft, are a perfect layer in this breakfast room.

Centered by Design In-Person Vintage Shopping

In case you missed it, we officially have a location on Chicago’s North Shore! The space doubles as a workspace and home to our vintage finds. When we are sourcing vintage for client projects, we often find things we can’t walk away from and purchase them to either use in future projects or sell to our CBD community.

We are excited to be part of the Glencoe Sidewalk Sale on June 19-20th. Save the date and come shop our collection of antiques.
